Cinema in Catalan

Making films in Catalan is nothing new, in 1933 Domènec Pruna i Ozerans shot El café de la Marina, an adaptation of the play of the same name by Josep Maria de Sagarra. This first film in Catalan was released on 23 February 1934 at the Urquinaona Cinema in Barcelona.

With the aim of promoting and disseminating films in Catalan, the CPNL organises and collaborates with various film-related activities, such as the Catalan-language children’s film series (CINC) organised by the Directorate General for Language Policy and the workshops Doblem en català? (Shall we dub in Catalan?).
